Ford cars dropped from 5th to 23rd in JD Power’s customer satisfaction survey primarily due to a complex and hard to use in-car digital UI.

“Primarily, the steep decline was attributed to consumer complaints about MyFord and MyLincoln Touch, the company’s in-car telematics systems that use a touch screen, dashboard display and voice commands presumably to help drivers operate radio and climate controls, as well as the navigation system.”

The NY Times earlier was critical of the system in a review of the Ford Edge:

“Some will still argue that today’s computerized cars, of which the Edge Sport and the similarly equipped Lincoln MKX may be among the leading exponents, invite distraction disaster. But longing for a time when everything could be controlled with buttons and knobs is like pining for eight-track tapes: those days are over. The issue now is which type of interface – voice, touch or multiple screens – will win you over. With the Edge, you have, for better or worse, all three.”
