Sound design is probably more important for mobile devices than standard desktop software, because the visual feedback mechanisms are often so spare. In this article, Max Lord discusses the topic of sound design.
“A sound is “legible” if the designer’s intent is properly understood by the listener. And listening—like all cognition—is based upon our existing mental model of what things ought to sound like. This model is based largely on two things: our perception of basic acoustic phenomena in the physical world and our experience listening to music.”
